We are proud to call South Kentish Town tube station our home, and we certainly think it’s one of the coolest Escape Room venues in London! Big thanks to Secret London for featuring our favourite station in their list of 11 Abandoned Tube Stations and the Fascinating Stories Behind Them!
South Kentish Town tube station was opened on 22nd June 1907 by the Charing Cross, Euston & Hampstead Railway company. Sadly, it didn’t have a long life as a tube station. On the afternoon of 5th June 1924, the station was temporarily closed following unofficial strike action at the Lots Road Power Station. But when power was restored it was decided that the station would not open again, due to the low number of passengers using it.
It was so unused that some trains didn’t even stop here. However, as the story goes, a train stopped here after the station closed, and a man named Johnathon Brackett stepped off the train by accident. After the train departed the station, Mr. Brackett realised his mistake. Trapped in the dark, he was never seen again…
In The Lost Passenger, you and your team will experience the story firsthand, explore the tunnels of the old station and discover what may have happened to poor Mr. Brackett. But beware, some say his spirit still haunts in the darkness of the station.
In the Second World War, during the Blitz attacks on London, South Kentish Town station was used once again but this time as an air raid shelter. People from the local area used to come here to seek shelter from the bombs, sometimes waiting through the night for the all-clear.
In Codebreakers, your team of agents will be sent back to 1940 to help Winston Churchill and his Bletchley Park team with the war effort by reconnecting the decoding machines, cracking the enemy ciphers, and identifying the enemy spy that has infiltrated the War Rooms! You don’t have long; the blitz is on its way and you need to get to the safety of a shelter!
These days, South Kentish Town station is the home of Mission: Breakout; London’s favourite immersive escape room experience. We’re keeping the history of this fascinating building alive through our next-generation escape games. We’ve also imagined the station’s role in a possible dystopian future…
Step into our time machine and travel into the future to explore the station and the burning remains of London after an apocalyptic event. In our newest game Underground 2099, you and your brave team will need to move through the station of the future to save the missing agent.
